Also, don't they know enough about basketball and this very critical Celtic draft, to talk to Danny Ainge, and anyone else in the Celtic organization, to possibly bring some kind of insight into the future of our Boston Celtics??
Not to mention that the Boston Bruins are deeply embroiled in a battle for the Stanley cup and are about to go against their most hated rivals, the Montreal Canadians??
Apparently not, because all they can talk about is Jerry Remy "should be fired because his son allegedly killed his girlfriend." They field calls from "alleged" sportsfans claiming that Jerry is an unfit parent for raising such a son and, therefore, should be fired from his job.
As I've said in several previous columns already...this is not sports, this is just a blatant attempt to get more phone calls by creating a controversy, thereby increasing their ratings and bringing more $$$$$ into their station. SHAME ON THEM, and anyone who pays attention to them.
I've known Jerry Remy since his playing days and he, and his wife, are very loving parents. They are suffering enough with their son's behavior.....and let us not forget Jerry's battle with cancer.
NOTE:---I've received several calls from REAL sportsfans that have said they've called the sports shows to talk about something other than Jerry and the "call-screeners" don't let them on. For those of you who don't know...the shows DO CONTROL the content of their shows but always claim," They can't control what people want to talk about." BULL! I've been doing sportstalk shows since the 70's, and I promise you they DO control the subject matter...LEAVE JERRY REMY ALONE!!!
Now for our Boston Celtics.....My first word is: Danny will find a way to bring Kevin Love to Boston, but that won't be the end of it. All I ask is that Jared Sullinger still be with the team after all the dealing is done. Rondo AND a first round draft pick, not our first THIS year, would be fine for me. Even if we give up Bass and another piece, NOT Green. I think Green is more valuable in another trade OR, maybe Green instead of Rondo for LOVE. There's a lot of options to talk about BUT, fans never get to talk about them because....oh well, you know.
I can't wait to see what magic Danny will pull off with all these picks. (I'd like to see him grab the kid, Doug McDermott, from Creighton but Danny knows best.) I don't know enough about these so-called "potential #1 picks" so I won't comment...but I DO believe there's not a LeBron James (or any other franchise-changing type) in the bunch. And don't forget that all of the touted #1's, or first five players are FRESHMAN! One of the things we need here in Boston is leadership type players which CAN be picked up in the free agent pool. THAT's what Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen brought to the Celtics along with their great basketball skills. Again, I have faith in Danny Ainge.
Now wouldn't it be fun to be able to talk about those possibilities on the sportstalk shows here in Boston? But noooo. Then you'd lose the "wannabee," know nothing sports fans.
Patriots' draft day is not that far away and there are a ton of different opinions on what the Pats need and what Bill Belichick will do. Many say a tight end but I still think they should use Hannamanui (hope I spelled it right) who catches whatever they throw to him. Only problem is Josh McDaniels doesn't have him in the game plan.
Same thing with Danny Ammendola. In the Denver game McDaniels only had one pass attempt to him and that was in the second half. This kids better than that. (Or should we blame Brady?)
Many say we need a linebacker (to replace Brandon Spikes) that can stop the run AND pass-cover. I think Bill will trade down, pick up another #2 pick and try to shore up both the defensive and offensive lines. Actually, there's one or two "studs" out there on either line that Bill might actually trade UP for. But, again, wouldn't you love to be able to listen to different opinions, and maybe get some thoughts from, say, ex-players like Tedy Bruschi or, even further back, Fred Smerlas, Steve Nelson or Tim Fox. My favorite would be JOHN HANNAH. I think it's a shame that we never get to hear from those guys. I'd also like to hear from Steve Grogan as well as some of the guys from the 60's like Larry Eisenhauer, Tommy Yewcic and of course Gino Cappelletti.
. My last thought for the Pats today:---I'd like to see Belichick pull a "Red Auerbach" and talk Tony Gonzales out of retirement for one more year so he can take some of the heat off Gronkowski as well as teach "Gronk" how NOT TO GET HURT. What do you think?.....Stay tuned.....
