Also...one of the biggest stories is John Lester's contract. We DO know the Sox, at the beginning of the year, offered him about $17 million a year for four years. It's been called INSULTING by the sports media. (Please God, let me be insulted the same way.) The sports shows and pages have been constantly filled with everything except...WHAT IS LESTER ASKING FOR!! All he ever says is he wants to stay in Boston and is willing to take a hometown discount. But WHAT IS IT?? You may recall Mo Vaughn said virtually the same thing, constantly repeating, "It's not about the money." Well we all soon learned THAT was a lie. Now, please, all you supposed "reporters"...tell us what John Lester is asking for instead of writing the "jibberish" you guys have been passing off as sports news. As I've always said, "All they want to do is create controversy," instead of informing (educating) the local fans. Remember when Boston used to be the most informed sports town in the country?? That was in the days of Will McDonough, Tim Horgan , Red Hoffman and Joe Fitzgerald (when he covered sports) along with several others who contributed to Boston's #1 ranking in the sports' community.
Also...Football is now upon us and the Patriots' never ending top story, constantly, is the health of Rob Gronkowski and doubts about his longevity. The only respite from that is the quarterback "controversy" along with criticism of Bill Belichick for drafting Jimmy Garofolo in the second round.
And to "juice it up" they call him the "heir apparent" to Tom Brady. (as if Brady were on his last leg and ready to "cash it in.") Lost in all this hoopla is, let me count the ways...the recent draft just brought us a ton of new blood, at several positions, that has virtually rebuilt the Patriots on BOTH sides of the ball. Unfortunately Patriots fans don't know much, if anything, about them because the media has all jumped on the easy stories. How'd you like to see the Pats get a running back who averaged 6.25 yards a carry in college, can block, catch the ball out of the backfield AND doesn't fumble? Well Belichick got him, on the 4th round. James White, from Wisconsin where he became the best running back in their history. He's also intelligent, durable and elusive, both inside and out.....
Want to hear about the offensive lineman Bill drafted who started at center for Florida State, the college champions, and won the Outland trophy (the lineman's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy?
How about the OG who is so tough he played the entire season with a torn pectoral muscle. He's also "John Hannah mean.)
Or how about the "rocket scientist," (really) with a degree from Stanford, or the DE who averaged a sack a game for an entire season in college.
I'll tell you about them and a little background on the Celtics team that's going to bring our guys in Green to the playoffs next season. That'll all be in my next story.....Stay tuned.....
