Secondly, He knows how to BUILD A TEAM. This means, not only talent but leadership qualities, work ethic, adaptability, toughness (both mental and physical) and overall coachability.
Also...He knows "how to win" more than just about every coach in the history of the NFL. His record speaks for itself. (and please spare me that "bullshiviky" about "spy-gate."
That being said lets go through the draft picks, and I defy anybody to tell me the team is not looking better than it was yesterday. The Pats need a pass rush and, on top of signing Revis to play corner (which will give the pass rushers an extra second or two), they drafted one of the best in the country with their first pick, Dominique Easly. The knock on the pick is that Easly has damaged the ACL on both knees. (or he would have been a top ten pick). Critics must think Bill is a complete idiot. Don't you think he had the kid thoroughly checked out before the draft?!! He has an explosive first step, knows all the moves and he never quits. He has a great work ethic and is a proven leader.
The second round pick, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, seems to be the biggest objection from all the boo-birds. "They have other needs or we could have had him on the third or fourth round." seems to be some of the loudest critiques. I can only say, Bill knows more about what's going on than any of them AND knows more about Garoppolo than they do. The kid seems to have pretty much the same "MO" as Brady did in college and the only difference is he throws the ball further and runs faster and is more elusive than Brady. Oops, I forgot...he is two inches shorter than Brady. The fact that Brady's present backup is about to leave the team doesn't seem to dent those thick skulls. Again I'll say, "Belichick knows more about what's going on than those detracters do. Since nobody else had made a point of stressing this, which may be of more importance than we know...Brady and the kid have the same agent. Make what you will of that but I'll bet it comes into play...somewhere.
Bill traded the 3rd round pick for another 4th and 6th. His next pick was the 105th pick (4th round) and it was a beauty (you'll see). Bryan Stork, a 6'4", 300 pound center from Florida State. He was the top center in the country, all AFCC first team and runnerup to two different "offensive lineman of the year awards"...the Remington award for offensive linemen and the Outland award for lineman of the year. Couple that with a "John Hannah" type attitude towards defensive linemen , a work ethic that never stops, a top-graded football IQ and top leadership skills and you've got a steal at #4. Lest I forget...he's just a kid and still growing. (AND learning) He's the first step in shoring up, (rebuilding?)
the offensive line and teamed up with two other draft picks, Jon Halapio, (G) 6'4'. 325 pounder from Florida State and Cameron Fleming, (OT, 6'4"-323 pounds) from Stanford, should show immediate results...judge for yourself.
Halapio is a four year starter, team captain for two years running, and is a no-nonsense , tough guy who's as aggressive as they come. He's also an incredibly hard worker who played his last year with a torn pectoral muscle that he wouldn't let keep him off the field.
Fleming has the same MO as Halapio and, at right tackle for now, should be able to free up Sebastian Volmer to eventually move over to left tackle if/when needed. He has a brilliant football mind and is studying for a degree in rocket science at Stanford. That should tell you all the rest about him. (high football IQ, knows what hard work is...and is COACHABLE)....A Belichick guy!!
Another 6th round pick (198th), DE, Zack Moore. a 6'5"-269 pounder, from Concordia is a very interesting pick for Belichick and should tell us something about his "network" 0f scouts. Why? you say...well there's never been a player drafted in the NFL from Concordia for one thing so it's probably been overlooked that Moore has some intriguing stats that could translate into one heck of an NFL DE. First off he's averaged a sack a game for his college career. He's a raw talent that is very coachable with "moldable" tools, physically gifted, a dedicated leader who was team captain as a junior and senior and has great work ethic with a great upside potential.
Their last two picks were Jemea Thomas, (5'9"--192 pound CB from Georgia Tech) and Jeremy Gallon, (5'7"-- 185 pound WR from Michigan.) who has good hands and will serve to push the other slot receivers in training camp. He could emerge as a special teams player.
Thomas is another story. Another undersized CB but quietly accomplished. He's a four year starter who also plays safety. He's registered 13.5 tackles for losses, 6 sacks and 9 interceptions. He's also a kick/punt returner and a special teams starter. He could easily fit into several spots like nickle back or special teams/return man and that versatility certainly is worth a try as a 6th round pick.
Lest I forget, their sandwiched 4th round pick was a beauty. Running back, James White, 5' 9"-205 pounder from Wisconsin. He's an all-purpose back who has great hands, good pass protector, runs well inside and outside with good speed and acceleration. He averaged 6.25 yards/carry which is #1 in Wisconsin history. He's highly intelligent, elusive, durable and doesn't fumble the ball. He could easily replace either, or both, of the Pats running backs in the last year of their contracts. (Riddly and Vereen). He also is a special teams guy, naturally. You know how Belichick loves versatility.
THAT'S my take on this years Patriot's draft. Hopefully it sheds a little light on Belichicks thinking and brings some relief to the junk you've been getting from Felger and most of the other airheads on the sportsshows who just want to sound like they know more than Belichick.
Felger's latest fluff is trying to create a QB controversy saying, "Brady's not going to keep playing for "chump change" and will want to be paid or traded before his contract is up, falsley alluding to this as the real reason why Belichick drafted a QB so high. That's the old game of his, tell the BIG LIE and then act upon it as if it were the truth. Don't worry, Belichick and the Pat's did good...Stay tuned.
