Back to the QB controversy Felger and company are trying to create. NOTE---None of them know any of the circumstances, or have ANY of the knowledge that have shaped Belichick's moves or strategies. They all agree that Brady definitely should not have played LAST week and even more definitely should NOT have started the game against the Giants, let alone played the entire first half.
They speculate that Jimmy Garoppolo needs the reps to make up for a poor showing last week. Well I think we can assume that the coach saw the same game that they saw. If he didn't see any reason why Garoppolo should even play in the Giants game THAT'S good enough for me. HE is making the strategy that could very well bring the Patriots another Super Bowl ring this year. ALSO, HE knows everything that's going on with his players and the media knows NONE of it.
Let me put out a supposition or two-----Maybe Garoppolo is slightly hurt. OR, maybe Bill wants Brady to work on some things so he'll be ready when he comes back...IN FOUR WEEKS> In case nobody has noticed---Brady has worked harder, this off season, than, probably, any other season in the last ten years. For one thing, he's never been real good at throwing a "touch" pass. whether it's long or just medium. (that's when he lofts the ball high, instead of on a line, and lets the receiver run under it.) NOW, he's shown it twice already, one for a TD against the Giants. Get my drift?
He won't be able to work with his team for FOUR WEEKS so, MAYBE Bill Needed him to play tonight. Whatever the reason I, and many of my readers, feel Bill doesn't have to give away his strategies to the media. After all, as a few of my guys like to say, "Did the Japanese call Pearl Harbor on December 6, 1941 and say to them, We're coming tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM and it's not for breakfast so be ready.
I'm beginning to feel like the media, having no knowledge of the sport(s) will just continue to try to manufacture controversies instead of REPORT what is going on. IF they like a manager or coach they'll pass by any bad stuff. If not, and they did it with Bill Parcells as well, they'll just criticize him and complain that he won't answer their questions. Funny, there are a few of us in the media that don't have that problem. Maybe because we've earned the trust and Bill knows we're not going to twist the truth or ask leading questions.
Red Sox manager, John Farrell is the nicest guy in the world and always caters to the whims of the media. In return they don't pounce on any of his mistakes. Farrell could very well have cost the Sox the pennant when, a couple of weeks ago, he wanted a pinch runner so sent in his second winningest pitcher, Stephen Wright (14 wins) who promptly hurt his pitching shoulder and missed a few starts. When he came back he was not the same. Media did talk about it but no "burn him at the stakes"
stories that would have accompanied ANY Belichick blunder of that magnitude.
Now Farrell really IS a nice guy and this story is not about HIM but was just to illustrate my point about the biased media.
The football fans deserve to hear real stories that aren't biased. Wonder when they're going to give Belicheck credit for bringing linebacker, Mingo, here from Cleveland, He's a former FIRST rounder (6th overall pick in the draft) and Bill got him for a fifth round pick. I promise you you're going to hear a lot from Mingo this year.
My prediction for the Pats this year....whatever their record when Brady comes back, even if they're 4-0, He'll be the starter and run the table, including the Super Bowl...Stay tuned.....
NOTE---Wouldn't it be nice if, occasionally, the media printed a humorous sports story of one of our Boston teams from years gone by. I promise you there are TONS of them...
One of my favorites was of LARRY EISENHOWER one of the greates defensive ends of the BOSTON Patriots in the 60's.
