I'll start with Michael Felger (who should be selling used cars in my estimation. Most recently he has jumped on Bill Belichick for, what he calls, strange decisions. Taking the wind instead of the ball in the overtime period against Denver. Comments ranged from, "How can you put the ball in Payton Manning's hands when you may never see it again?? He was lucky to win the game."
Well, gee, Mr. Felger, was he also lucky to take the Pats to FIVE super bowls in TEN years?!! Give us a break pal, if you don't know enough about football to talk about strategies, play selection and the like...then, "Get a broom," as the old timers used to say about guys that were inept at their jobs.
Another rediculous chant of Felger's is, "The Patriots cannot be considered a dynasty until they've won at least one or two more super bowls!" To my recollection NO TEAM in the NFL has been this good over this long a period as the Pats. Not San Francisco with Joe Montana nor Pittsburgh in the Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Green era. Not even the old Buffalo Bills going to four straight Super Bowls even though they lost them all. (That's a record that will never be broken>)
His partner, Tony Massarotti, has become just as bad. Now Tony is a good baseball man BUT is out in left field when he's with Felger and football or basketball. Maz, screaming (please retire until your voice changes, Tony) that the Sox should immediately name Jackie Bradley Jr. starting center fielder now that Jacoby Elsbury is gone, is rediculous in the Felger Manner. ("Felgerism" seems to be contagious, Tony, run away while you can. By the way, in case you missed it, Tony, the Red Sox won the world series last year. Somebody must be doing something right...d'ya think??
In case you didn't notice, even though I'm considered to be in the media, I can't stand by and watch these guys just throw out these "bombs" just to create controversy and get callers. I feel a big part of their jobs is to inform people IMPARTIALLY instead of with your own private agenda that is always negative. God help me for saying it but, in this respect, Rick Petino was right. The town is full of negativity but only because of THESE types. I believe there's a large segment of sportsfans who are just dying to hear some truly objective sports talk. These guys seem to get away with this stuff because they're not accountable for anything they say on a day to day basis. Here's some examples from the past...Dan Duquette was so highly touted by the overall media when the Sox were looking for a GM that they hired him. Cries like, "If the Sox are serious about winning a world series they have to hire Duquette." Well, after they did the media at large found out he was not giving out any privileged information to anybody. That's when all the attacks began, culminating in the Roger Clemens affair. Nobody will tell you that the first world series winning was comprised mostly of players Duquette had brought to the team. Also, let me say that the big problem Duquette had with Clemens was that Roger was 25 pounds over his contract weight and refused to lose it. THAT's why Duke said he felt Roger's career was on the downslide. Roger was so mad at Duquette for saying that he went out and lost 26 pounds and won a few more Cy Young awards. Because of this I feel that Roger should give 10% of his salary to Duquette. But did the media say anything good about Duquette or call out Roger? Not one bit. By the way, I don't believe Roger took those drugs he's accused of. He took vitamin B12 shots. As far as the perjury charges...the only two witnesses against him were both convicted liars and one was a convicted drug dealer. You do the math.
Also, the nedia demanded that the Pats hire Bill Parcells and, after they did and found out his style of coaching was not catering to the mainstream media wants...they pounced on him. Will McDonough, who was always objective and a man of honor (that's why the players liked him) was the only guy who got trust and respect from the players and coaches.
Before he was hired Bob Kraft refused to pay $93 million for the team but AFTER Parcells was hired he paid $192 million. That's how much Parcells meant to the Pats. I'll tell you what MY sources said about why Parcells left the team at a later date and it's not what you think.
That's just a few of my gripes about, what passes as, sportstalk shows. Glen Ordway used to say "it's entertainment, not just sports!" Sorry guys, I want the real stories about real goings on AND, I don't want to hear about who's taking drugs, who wants more money or even who's fooling around with who's wife, etc. What do you think?
Stay tuned.......
